Workshop on POSH Act
The Women Cell of Amar Shaheed Baba Ajit Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, Bela, actively worked throughout the academic year 2025–2026 to promote awareness, safety, equality, and empowerment among female students and staff members. The primary objective of the Women Cell is to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment within the campus while educating students about their legal rights, health, and overall well-being.
During this academic session, special emphasis was laid on creating awareness about the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act.
A detailed seminar was organized on dated: 26 February; 2026 to educate students and faculty members about the provisions of the POSH Act and its importance in educational institutions. The president, Dr. Monika Gupta, explained the definition of sexual harassment, different forms of inappropriate behavior, and the legal protection available under the Act. Real-life examples were discussed to help students clearly understand what constitutes sexual harassment, including verbal, non-verbal, and physical misconduct.
The session also highlighted the role and functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) established in the institution as per the guidelines of the POSH Act. Students were informed about the complaint-filing procedure, confidentiality norms, timelines for inquiry, and protection against victimization. Emphasis was placed on the fact that every woman has the right to dignity, safety, and equality at the workplace and educational institutions. The seminar aimed to remove hesitation and fear related to reporting incidents and encouraged students to speak up against any form of harassment. The interactive discussion helped in clarifying doubts and strengthening confidence among participants.
In addition to POSH Act awareness, Dr. Shailesh Sharma emphasized the Zero tolerance policy of institute against any act of sexual harassment of women in the campus. He focused on legal remedies, helpline services, and support systems available for women facing violence or discrimination. Students were encouraged to become aware citizens who not only know their rights but also respect the rights of others.
To promote empowerment beyond legal awareness, the Women Cell conducted a health and wellness lecture for female students. A medical expert Dr. Harpreet Kaur and Dr. Manjeet Kaur, Kamal Nursing Home, Ropar delivered a session on menstrual hygiene, prevention of anemia, balanced nutrition, stress management, and mental health awareness. Special attention was given to the importance of regular health check-ups and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Students were motivated to prioritize self-care and maintain physical as well as emotional well-being.
Overall, the programs conducted by the Women Cell during the academic year received an encouraging response from students and faculty members. The initiatives significantly increased awareness regarding the POSH Act, women’s legal rights, health education, and personal safety. Through these continuous efforts, the Women Cell reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering campus environment where every woman feels protected, valued, and confident.
In the end, Dr. Sumanlata delivered the vote of thanks and assured the students and staff that the Women Cell will continue to organize such awareness and empowerment activities in the coming years to strengthen the culture of dignity, equality, and mutual respect within the institution.
